About Endurance
Endurance is building the world's first modular subsea geothermal power plants, converting vast thermal resources under the ocean into gigawatts of baseload power. Backed by Founders Fund, Felicis, First Round Capital, and Point72 Ventures, our founding team includes veterans from SpaceX, Helion, Blue Origin, and Apple. We have completed multiple deep-ocean deployments to subsea volcanoes and are launching a long-term demonstration project this fall. By leveraging modular design, manufacturing scale, efficient drilling, and latent cooling on the seafloor, we are pioneering a new category of energy that outperforms traditional sources on environmental impact, deployment speed, and cost.
What you'll be doing
As Power Delivery Engineer, you will be Endurance’s principal technical expert on power systems and grid interconnection. You will own the engineering required to get power from our subsea plants to the grid: interconnection strategy, system studies, protection, equipment specification, installation, and commissioning.
This role is for someone who has done this work hands-on and can do it again. On active projects you will bring in and manage an EPC, but you will be the person at Endurance who knows what good looks like, can check the work, and can do it yourself when needed.
Your work will span the full life of a project:
New opportunities. Quick feasibility analysis to determine whether a site or market can work, assessing grid capacity, interconnection pathways, cable routes, and landfall options. You will support business development, regulatory, procurement, and siting efforts, including leasing and permitting.
Projects entering development. Pre-FEED and early FEED power delivery engineering, including transmission architecture trade studies, early system studies, and equipment specifications. This work will support site acquisition and early infrastructure, feed requirements to the generator team, and kick off procurement of long-lead equipment like export cables and transformers.
Projects in execution. Select and engage an EPC for detailed engineering, procurement, and construction, then manage them through commissioning and energization.
Future technology. Advance the grid-tie technologies our future projects will depend on, such as higher-performance wet-mate connectors, subsea electrical equipment, HVDC, and submarine cable improvements. You will work with universities, research labs, vendors, and our internal teams to raise TRL ahead of the projects that need it.
You will be the primary engineer dedicated to power delivery at Endurance, working closely with electrical, mechanical, drilling, offshore operations, supply chain, regulatory, and business teams, and directly with the founding team and engineering leadership. As we scale from demonstration systems to commercial plants in multiple countries, the technical foundation you build will carry into every project we deliver.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as Endurance’s technical lead on power systems, transmission, and grid interconnection
Perform early feasibility analysis for new project opportunities in support of business development, regulatory, procurement, and siting efforts
Lead pre-FEED and early FEED power delivery engineering, including transmission architecture, voltage selection, export system design, and AC/DC trade studies
Take projects through the utility or transmission operator interconnection process, including applications, model submittals, study phases, and interconnection agreements
Scope and review utility interconnection studies, push back where needed, and run independent studies to anticipate results
Perform or direct plant-side power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, grounding, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonics, and cable ampacity
Develop protection philosophy and design protection and control systems for the plant and interconnection, including relay selection, settings, and coordination with the utility
Design or specify control house / E-house infrastructure, including layout, auxiliary power, HVAC, fire protection, and SCADA and communications
Write specifications for high-voltage and interconnection equipment, including subsea export cables, transformers, switchgear, reactive compensation, and converter equipment
Translate grid code and interconnection requirements into design requirements for the generator team
Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements in each jurisdiction we operate in
Qualify suppliers and support procurement of long-lead electrical equipment
Witness factory acceptance testing and manage shipping, receipt, inspection, and installation of high-voltage equipment and infrastructure
Select and manage EPC and installation contractors through construction and commissioning
Commission and energize Endurance power plants and their grid interconnections
Drive development of next-generation grid-tie technologies with universities, research labs, vendors, and internal teams
Identify technical risks early and drive mitigation before they threaten first power
Help define future hiring needs as the power delivery function grows
Qualifications
10+ years of hands-on engineering experience in power systems, transmission, or grid interconnection of large-scale generation or transmission projects, from either the utility side or the plant side
Has taken at least one large project through the interconnection process
Experience performing or directing power system studies and reviewing utility interconnection studies
Experience with protection and control design for substations, generation plants, or transmission infrastructure
Experience writing specifications for high-voltage electrical equipment and evaluating supplier proposals
Field experience with equipment testing, installation, and commissioning
Strong working knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for grid-connected projects
Experience managing EPC or installation contractors
Ability to work onsite in Seattle and travel frequently to supplier sites, utilities, construction sites, and international project locations
Preferred Skills
Professional Engineer (PE) license or international equivalent
Experience with offshore wind, submarine cables, subsea power systems, or marine construction
Experience with HVDC transmission systems
Experience interconnecting projects in multiple markets or jurisdictions
Experience with early-stage feasibility work supporting development, regulatory, or siting efforts
Experience maturing new technologies through R&D programs or supplier development
Experience with landfall construction or horizontal directional drilling
Compensation, Benefits, & Perks
As a pre-revenue startup, Endurance Energy offers competitive base salaries and generous equity packages for full-time employees. Final base salary will be determined by an array of factors including internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and work experience.
A key aspect of our compensation philosophy is that value creation should be aligned with rewards. Right now this means equity is a significant portion of every full-time employee's compensation. As the company matures, there will be continued evolution and changes to the total rewards and total compensation package. What will always be true is that if we win, we win together. Equity is granted to every full-time employee as a meaningful piece of ownership. We believe the people building the company should share directly in the value they create.
In addition to a competitive base salary and equity, employees will receive all of our other great benefits and perks, including:
Benefits: Health, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage
Time Away: Flexible PTO including 12 paid company holidays
Global Fieldwork: Travel to fascinating deployment sites along oceanic ridges in locations like the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores
Hands-on Experience: Participate in sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions
