Overview

A private Manhattan family is seeking an accomplished, highly professional live-in weekend nanny for two young children: one under one year old and one three-year-old. The family is looking for a confident, warm and engaging nanny who will become a trusted and valued part of their household.

The schedule is Thursday at 6:00 p.m. through Monday at 8:00 a.m., with an immediate start preferred. Both parents have busy schedules, so the nanny will have periods of sole responsibility for both children, as well as shared care. A private bedroom and bathroom are provided in the family’s residence, with a separate apartment in the building available for daytime breaks.

The children follow consistent routines and generally sleep through the night, although the nanny will remain on call and handle any wakings. The family values unstructured play, while also looking for someone who brings warmth, imagination and energy to the children’s days. The successful candidate will confidently engage the toddler in active outdoor play, imaginative games and age-appropriate activities, while meeting the infant’s needs with calm, attentive care.

The ideal candidate will communicate clearly, both in writing and in person, and demonstrate intelligence, sound judgment and initiative. They will be confident setting kind, consistent boundaries when needed, while remaining open to parental guidance and feedback.

The family may travel for occasional weekends away, primarily on short domestic trips, and the nanny will be expected to accompany them. On occasion, the parents may travel without the children, in which case the nanny will assume full proxy-parenting responsibility for the weekend. There are other staff members in the household, including a weekday nanny.

Responsibilities

  • Provide warm, attentive and developmentally appropriate care for both children.
  • Manage morning, nap, evening and bedtime routines.
  • Handle overnight wakings, including when a child is unwell.
  • Create engaging, age-appropriate activities, including imaginative and active outdoor play.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for the children.
  • Complete child-related tidying, laundry and organisation.
  • Manage preschool drop-off and pickup, as required.
  • Set kind, clear and consistent boundaries in line with the parents’ approach.
  • Work comfortably in sole-charge and shared-care settings.
  • Accompany the family on occasional trips and assume proxy-parenting responsibility when required.

Qualifications

  • Strong infant, preschool and sibling experience.
  • Previous live-in and overnight childcare experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intelligence, sound judgment and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Warmth, creativity and energy, with genuine enthusiasm for active and imaginative play.
  • Confidence setting appropriate boundaries, paired with openness to parental feedback and guidance.
  • Proactive, organised and comfortable working independently.
  • Driving and swimming abilities preferred.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years of professional nanny experience.
  • Fluent English.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Legal authorisation to work in the United States.
